North East Scotland MSP Marlyn Glen has released figures that she has received from Tayside Police which she says, " show that the community and the police are working hard together to maintain and improve the quality of life for the people of Carnoustie and Monifieth."

Ms. Glen release figures on the number of incidents of vandalism, and Anti-Social Behaviour incidents in Carnoustie and Monifieth made know to the Police in the past two years.

The number of recorded acts of vandalism, including graffiti, increased from 246 to 271 between 2005/06 and 2006/07.

The number of youths causing annoyance fell from 995 to 757 in the same period.

Incidents of noise nuisance rose from 227 to 273.

The volume of alcohol seized from under-age drinkers increased from 151 litres to 302 litres.

The number of Anti-Social Behaviour Vehicle Warnings, a new power to tackle anti-social driving, was 20 in 2006/07.

Ms. Glen said, " Anti-Social behaviour is a problem that no one can ignore.

"I can see in these figures evidence that the communities of Carnoustie and Monifieth are working together in partnership with the police to control such behaviour.

" The increase in the number of reported incidents involving vandalism, noise, and possession of alcohol by those under age demonstrate a greater willingness by people to inform the police about these matters.

"The large decrease in the number of incidents of youths causing an annoyance shows that this co-operation between the communities and the police is reaping rewards."

" These figures demonstrate that police and residents are working hard to make Carnoustie and Monifieth, which already have a good quality of life, even better places to live in."
