| Police Numbers in Tayside : Will recent recruits count towards Tayside’s " fair share"? - 7 November 2007 |
In a fresh bid to obtain details of the number of police officers who will serve in Tayside Police over the next few years, Marlyn Glen, the Dundee-based MSP, is asking the Scottish Government whether those recruited since April will be counted as part of Tayside’s "fair share" of the 1,000 additional police officers promised for Scotland.
Ms. Glen has tabled Parliamentary Questions to Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill.
She is asking him how many police officers will be added to the 1,141 police officers in Tayside Police force as at March 2007 when Tayside Police receives its "fair share" of "the equivalent of 1,000 additional police officers in Scotland.
She is asking if the 43 police officers recruited by Tayside Police in the period April to September 2007 are to be included in Tayside Police’s "fair share"
She is also questioning the Justice Minister on a possible role of the 297 who have retired or left Tayside Police since April 2002 and for the 137 Tayside Police officers who are projected to retire in the period January 2008 to December 2011, such as being retained or being brought out of retirement.
Ms. Glen said,
"The Justice Minister is being given detailed information on current and future trends in police numbers in Tayside Police in the questions submitted.
"The people of Dundee and Tayside expect and deserve no less than a detailed reply to these questions.
" Six months has passed since the election, and we still don’t know how many more police there will be in the city and the region, and whether recent recruits will count as part of the Tayside’s ‘fair share’."
