Marlyn Glen has been informed by the Scottish Executive that over 600 people in Angus have received financial support towards the cost of learning new skills through Individual Learning Account Scotland in the past three years.
In a written reply to a Parliamentary Question tabled by Ms. Glen, Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop said that since 2004, financial support had been given to 614 learners in Angus had received funding.
ILA Scotland is a Scottish Executive initiative that provides financial backing to those aged 18 and over in Scotland towards the cost of learning new skills.
Those earning £18,000 a year or less can receive £200 a year towards learning costs.
Those earning over £18,000 can receive £100.
Welcoming the figures, Ms. Glen said,
" People are being given support to undertake learning that best suits their individual needs.
" In a modern-day economy that calls for more and more new skills, it is important that people are given the opportunity to equip themselves for this."
