| MSP criticises "no answers" on promised new nursery teachers for Angus - 12 November 2007 |
North East Scotland MSP Marlyn Glen, has criticised the Scottish Government for "failing to provide details of firm figures and firm finance on election promises" to increase the number of nursery teachers for Angus.
Ms. Glen said,
"The SNP’s election manifesto promised ‘access to a fully qualified nursery teacher for every nursery age child, starting with children in deprived communities.’
"However, when I asked for details of how many new nursery teachers in Angus the Scottish Government had estimated this would entail, I was told that they had made no estimate of the number.
"I asked for details of how much the Scottish Government had estimated these new teachers would cost in Angus.
" I was told that the Scottish Government had made no estimate of the cost.
"The SNP have been promising these new nursery teachers since May 2006.
"So they have had plenty of time to cost these election promises.
"’No estimate’ is no answer.
"Parents of nursery children in Angus will be rightly concerned that the absence of any firm figures and firm finance means that there is no guarantee that the promise will be kept."
