MSP queries timetable and cost of class size reduction in Angus

North East Scotland MSP Marlyn Glen has tabled a series of questions in the Scottish Parliament asking the Scottish Executive for details of the cost and the timetable for its promise to reduce class sizes in primaries 1, 2 and 3 to 18 in Angus primary schools.

Ms. Glen said,

" There is general agreement that smaller class sizes help to raise the standard of education.

" My questions seek information on how the Executive’s plans for the reduction of class sizes across Scotland will be carried out and funded in Angus."

Ms. Glen’s questions are :

* To ask the Scottish Executive how many classes in Angus primary schools in primaries 1, 2 and 3 are in excess of 18 pupils in the latest available year.

* To ask the Scottish Executive what estimate it has made of the number of additional teachers required in Angus to implement fully its commitment to the reduction of class sizes to 18 in primaries 1, 2 and 3 classes.

* To ask the Scottish Executive what is the timetable for Angus for the full implementation of the commitment to the reduction of class sizes to 18 in primaries 1, 2 and 3 classes.

* To ask the Scottish Executive what estimate it has made of the additional funds that will be required to be made available to Angus Council for the full implementation of the commitment to the reduction of class sizes to 18 in primaries 1, 2 and 3 classes.
